Stop that surfing!
 Go outdoors!

Well, OK, you're welcome to take a quick look now and then . . .

LarryStonesIowa.com is my attempt to help fellow Iowans (or anyone else who's curious about the Land Between Two Rivers) tune in to the natural heritage of our state. Thus, the first advice: Go outdoors!

But for those times when you're stuck at the computer, maybe we can use the cyber world to pass along a few thoughts, opinions, or photos that make us all want to be outdoors.

Can we help you find an interesting book or photo, trigger a bit of nostalgia, or offer advice on where to find some of Iowa's natural treasures? Let us know!

Like Mother Nature, I sometimes change slowly - so please be patient as this website grows and changes. But don't forget to Listen to the Land!

The Legacy of Iowa's Bird Lady
by Larry A. Stone and Jon W. Stravers

Gladys Black's newspaper columns and tireless work as an educator showed us the wonders of birds. Her message - whether aimed at kids or bureaucrats - was always the same: protect our birds and our planet. Stone and Stravers share stories from "The Bird Lady," and from admirers and adversaries who made her an Iowa conservation legend.
